Our First Day of Work

We are thankful for the strength that God supplies! Today we were able to accomplish much more than Michael expected and right now are ahead of schedule for the jobs that he has planned for us.

When we arrived at the airstrip some worked on the runway moving dirt (the old fashioned way with shovel and wheelbarrow) and painting runway markings. Others began work on the water line for the hanger. After lunch we worked mostly on projects in the shade of the hanger to be out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. We worked on patching drywall, more work on the water line, and building a dust-proof box for spare airplane parts.

We came back to a wonderful supper that Karis and Amanda had prepared for us.

Tomorrow morning we will leave very early (5:15 a.m.) and Michael will fly Thaniel, John, and I (Trevor) out to a village airstrip to do some work on it. The others will stay at Michael's airstrip and continue with the projects there.

Here are some pictures from the day:

Runway dirt work, and a water break. Michael told us to drink lots of water, and the air conditioner was running........

Painting runway markings, but...... you should see their hands!

Push harder! You're only 50 mph from reaching liftoff speed! (Actually just pushing the plane out to fill it with fuel.)

Stopping at 10:00 a.m. (11:00 a.m. Kansas time) to pray for Sam and his biopsy.

Just imagine having to carry all those groceries up 22 steps to get them in your house!

I never expected to be building canals for flood control in the Mexican desert! Actually it was caused by a major water leak just below the surface that was making a LARGE puddle. The letters need painted and some were covered in standing water and mud before we redirected the water coming to the surface and then cleaned off the bricks that form the letters. They should get a coat of white paint tomorrow to match the runway heading numbers.

Working on a shed for the water holding tanks. Or, maybe arguing about whose turn it is to get to use the torch!

Building a box for storing airplane parts to keep them out of the dust. Looks really dust-proof doesn't it ;)

Trying to figure out how to install a security light. Maybe something got lost in translation!

As I write, Amanda and Karis are trying to figure out how to control a Mexican gas oven. Its too hot, its too cold, it's got a mind of its own!
You can pray for safety for those flying, and that we would all be a blessing to those that we have opportunity to interact with.
